Jeffrey's
Hook
rests on the New York side of the Hudson River beneath the supports
of the George Washington Bridge. Famous for its role in the children's
book "The Little Red Lighthouse", this beacon survived a
planned demolition through a write-in campaign from children around
the world.
Once
home to New York's criminally insane, Roosevelt
Island today is an urban residential area. The lighthouse
(shown here under renovation) was built by one of the orignal inmates.
